The Acid Rain Project

On this page you will find information that will help you complete a project on acid rain.

By the end of this project you will have -

1. Watched some videos relating to Acid Rain.

2. Participated in a debate relating to the use of fuels which cause Acid Rain.

3. Looked at graphs relating to Acid Rain.

4. Created a presentation/poster about everything you have learned about acid rain.

5. Writen a report on your findings.

The right hand column contains some extra pictures and a marking scheme for your poster and essay.

Task Three - The Essay

Examine all of the graphs shown below...they all contain information regarding the gases associated with Acid Rain.

It is now time for you to write an essay on all of the information you have gathered and learned in this project. This essay should be your own work but don't be afraid to show it to your parent/guardian for some advice.

Your essay should make reference to -

1. What acid rain is.

2. What kind of damage can acid rain do (using examples mentioned in the videos)

3. What do you think is happening to acid rain levels in Scotland, Europe, USA and Asia. (The graphs will help you write about this).

4. Give your own reasons why you think the acid rain levels have changed the way they have.

Your essay should be as long as you think is appropriate to give all the information required.

Task Four - The Debate

The Debate will be conducted during your class time. Your teacher may take photographs or a video as evidence for the debate.

Your teacher will provide instructions for the debate which will focus on this statement: -

The House believes that all fuels which cause acid rain should be immediately banned.

You will not be given a choice over the argument you are allowed to present and instead must produce evidence, through research which can support which side of the argument you are given.

A poster has been created with accurate information regarding the sources and damage of acid rain.

There is a lot of evidence that the pupil has used the information from the website to create the poster.

There is evidence of clear understanding of the mechanism of acid rain production and its harm on the environment.

The teacher can identify few/no items for improvement and share with pupils.

Success for your Essay

Developing:

An essay has been written which lacks depth and length to convey all the information regarding acid rain.

The pupil has made little/no reference to the graph data, the cause of acid rain and fails to understand the impact acid rain has had on the environment.
